Thallus
Fruticose, up to 10 cm long, lobes branching into narrow strips (2-3 mm wide), distinctly separated with long gray to black cilia at the thallus edge

Gray when dry, green when wet
Reproduction
Apothecia: often present, pruinose blackish-brown disc and crenate margin
Soralia: absence
Isidia: absence
Risk of confusion
Physcia leptalea, with similar apothecia and cilia, but has a clearly leaf-like thallus
Physcia adscendens/P. tenella, significantly smaller (2–3 cm) and with rare apothecia
